about

Meraki is the brainchild of young pianist and composer Jacky Naylor. Forged in Birmingham, it includes Double Bassist Nick Jurd (Soweto Kinch), and BBC Radio Scotland Young Jazz Musician of the Year, Jonathan Silk (Forj/Mike Fletcher). Meraki was born out of their desire to play complex contemporary music, inspired by the great European jazz trios

4 years in the making, their debut album was recorded at Real World Studios directly after their April 2019 ACE funded UK Tour. The trio effortlessly travels through the various moods, emotions and complexities of Naylor’s original music, whilst dynamically interacting.

Reviews:

'When a piano trio gets it right there is little better and this outfit has that great knack of taking one on a marvellous journey as the music ebbs and flows with grooves, melodies and intricate passages.' - Bebop Spoken Here

4.5 Stars 'Meraki marks the birth of a very promising new piano trio. So much great musical class can never pass unnoticed. Meraki is one of those albums where the talent really shines.' - Written in Music

5 Stars 'This is an album that reveals its pleasures slowly but will certainly repay repeated listening. I’m already looking forward to their next album.' - UK Vibe

'Fans of the towering club-influenced mournful grooves of GoGo Penguin might find much to enjoy here, but Naylor works with more subtlety and less bombast to produce highly accomplished and satisfying results.' - Sussex Jazz

'Simple Things completes an exquisite album, a gentle and graceful track – perhaps a reminder to find moments of beauty in challenging times.'
London Jazz News

'Some of the tracks on this debut invite comparisons with Tigran Hamasyan, Vijay Iyer and The Bad Plus' - Jazzwise
